Steamboat Springs Phone service was restored Wednesday evening after a Century Link outage that affected some customers, including Routt County Communications.
“We’re still investigating the cause of the outage,” Century Link’s Mark Bittle said.
During the day on Wednesday, 911 still could be dialed for emergencies, but non-emergency landlines routed through Communications were not working properly. Residents were asked to limit non-emergency calls, as Communications was overwhelmed with calls being forwarded to three cellphones.
Karie Taylor with Communications said they initially were told by a Century Link representative that the problem was caused by damage to the Century Link network, and that while fixing the problem was a high priority, service might not be restored until Saturday. By about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Communications was able to bring the landlines back online.
Bittle said technicians were in the field working on the problem when he contacted them earlier Wednesday evening.
“It affected just a few of our customers in the area,” Bittle said.
