It wasn't quite as simple as saying one team made its free throws and the other didn't, but there was no escaping that the Soroco High School boys basketball team let a close game get away Friday night, falling at Meeker, 61-48.
The Rams made just five of 20 free throws and, trailing late in the game, had to resort to following, which allowed the once-tight game to balloon out of control as the Cowboys proved more adept at the line.
"We had some chances, but we couldn't make them when we needed to," coach Jake Eskridge said. "It was really closer than the score indicated."
Warren Hayes led Soroco with 10 points. Eric Logan scored nine, and Ryan Jeep had eight.
Soroco led by two at half, but trailed by seven after the third quarter.
The team is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Rangely.
