Steamboat Springs Less than a week removed from a dominating home performance, the Steamboat Springs High School hockey team found itself on the other side of the fence Monday.
The Sailors ended a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 win at Howelsen on Friday, but undefeated Monarch shut out Steamboat, 6-0, Monday.
A pair of goals in each of the game's three periods by five different Coyotes dropped Steamboat to 5-4 on the season. Monarch sits atop the Foothills Conference at a perfect 5-0, while the Sailors slipped to 11th in the 15-school league.
Sailors goalie Trent Trask, who came into the game as the league leader in saves, faced 30 shots Monday. On the other end, Steamboat only managed 16 shots on Monarch goalie Akira Kyle.
Steamboat had an opportunity to go 2-0 following the holiday break with a Saturday game against Summit, which hasn’t won a game this season. The game, however, was cancelled.
Steamboat’s next game is Friday at home against 5-0-2 Dakota Ridge at 6:30 p.m.
