It was a fast weekend for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, racing at several events across the state. Local racers snagged a trio of podiums at a Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup race in Aspen, and younger skiers fared well at an event in Vail.
“We had a really big weekend with our kiddos,” Winter Sports Club Alpine Director Deb Armstrong said. “Those are huge results.”
Racing at Aspen Highlands, Serina Kidd and Chandler Sedberry particularly had strong weekends.
Kidd was second in Saturday's giant slalom, then was third Sunday in a super G. Sedberry, meanwhile, won Sunday’s race and was 14th on Saturday.
“Those are really big results and are great for the program,” Armstrong said.
Skiing at Beaver Creek against a huge contingent of Ski Club Vail racers, a pack of Steamboaters represented well.
Chase Seymour was first and third Saturday in U14 class GS races. Trey Seymour was fifth and seventh, and Kyler Armstrong made it into the top 10 in one race with a ninth-place finish.
Finn Sadley, sixth, Bode Flanigan, seventh, Cole Gedeon, eighth, and Nicholas Richeda, ninth, all made the top 10 of the U12 class in the first race.
Walker Tracy was second overall in the second race and first among the U12 set. Puckett was fourth among U12 skiers, Richeda was sixth, Flanigan was seventh and Jordan Simon was 10th.
In Saturday action among the girls, Margaret Dickson was seventh in a U14 race and Riley Smith was 10th in another.
Chase Seymour was third, Cole Puckett was fifth and Trey Seymour was eighth in Sunday’s first U14 GS race. Cooper Puckett was second among U12 skiers, Richeda was third and Flanigan was seventh.
Cole Puckett was third, Trey Seymour fourth and Chase Seymour fifth in another Sunday U14 GS. Richeda was second in the U12 class, Cooper Puckett was third, Finn Sadler was sixth, Jordan Simon was ninth and Cole Gedeon was 10th.
“Our boys were just powerhouses,” Armstrong said. “Our team was a fraction of the size of the Vail athletes, but we represented well. It was a strong showing, and I’m proud of them.”
