Hayden boys hoops season ends at Rangely

— The Hayden boys basketball team — riding a remarkable run throughout the past four games, with just five players in uniform — dropped a nail-biter Tuesday against Rangely, 37-36.

The Tigers overcame an extremely slow start, down 10 after the first quarter and six at halftime.

“It was a good ball game,” Hayden coach Mike Luppes said. “Just missed opportunities here and there. We kept battling, and they could have given up after the first quarter, but they just chipped away at it.”

The loss dropped the Tigers out of the district tournament hunt and marked the final game for seniors Isaac Bridges, Greg Frentress and Dan Engle.

Bridges finished with 23 points, Frentress added seven and Engle had five.

“I’m really proud of the boys,” Luppes said. “They did a super job tonight. They played hard and just didn’t get out way in the end.”
