Steamboat Springs Darrel Levingston once again is challenging Rob Ryg for the office of Routt County coroner in November.
Levingston has filed his candidate affidavit to run for coroner as a Democrat.
Ryg, who has held the office for 11 years and said the upcoming term would be his last, is filed to run as a Republican.
Levingston challenged Ryg in 2010 and received 33.2 percent of the vote compared to Ryg’s 62.3 percent.
Levingston is an incident commander with Routt County Search and Rescue and has been part of the organization for 21 years. He also was an EMT for 18 years.
He operates a family business, Clean Living, that has been doing property management and housekeeping since 1981.
“The biggest motivator for me is I'm a firm believer in preventative programs,” Levingston said about challenging Ryg again.
Levingston said more could be done to prevent unnecessary deaths in Routt County and would like to see the coroner get involved in suicide prevention and drug treatment programs.
Ryg and Levingston currently are the only two candidates who have filed to run for coroner.
