What: Routt County employee Market Compensation Committee meets with county commissioners

When: 11:05 a.m. Tuesday

Where: Commissioners Hearing Room, Routt County Courthouse, 522 Lincoln Ave., Steamboat Springs

— A group of Routt County government employees, tasked with making recommendations on the scope of a salary survey for themselves and their colleagues, is scheduled to present its findings to county commissioners Tuesday. But the employees won’t be proposing their own raises. Instead, they’ll present some of the economic conditions that could inform a future decision about pay raises.

“We aren’t doing a salary survey ourselves,” Yampa Valley Regional Airport Manager Dave Ruppel said Monday. “We were tasked with identifying what the scope of work would be for someone doing a salary survey. We think we have a pretty good idea of what we think are some of the drivers for pay raises in an area like this.”

The creation of the committee goes back to Oct. 30, when the last Routt County Board of Commissioners gave employees their first raise in years with a 2 percent cost-of-living increase. The commission previously had restored 5 percent pay cuts imposed during the recession.

Commissioner Doug Monger said that last fall, the county informally compared current Routt County wages to those of corresponding counties and found Routt County was behind the market rates. County Manager Tom Sullivan asked Ruppel to lead a group of employees to lay the groundwork for a formal salary survey.
