Steamboat contingent represents well at Alley Loop Nordic Marathon

— The annual Alley Loop Nordic Marathon is known for being Crested Butte’s largest costume party and Nordic ski race, and a handful of Steamboat residents made their presence felt among the celebration Feb. 1.

In the 42K skate race, 35-year-old TJ Thrasher was fourth overall and the top finisher in the male 30-to-39 age group. Likewise, Steamboat’s Heather Gollnick was 26th overall among all men and women skate skiers, and the fourth-best finisher among female racers. Gollnick also won the women’s 40-to-49 age class.

Right behind Gollnick was Katie Lindquist, 48, placing second in their 42K skate age group. Lindquist was seventh among all female skiers.

Brad Bingham finished 30th in the skate race and eighth in the male 30-to-39 division.

In the 42K classic race, 41-year-old Jon Freckleton finished third overall in a little more than 2 hours, 43 minutes. Steamboat’s Bill Swift, 33, finished ninth in the race and was the top male in the 30-to-39 age class.

The Alley Loop Nordic Marathon is one of 13 races in the American Ski Marathon Series, North America’s longest-running and largest citizens racing and touring series.
