Luke Graham and Joel Reichenberger arrived in Russia on Wednesday and hit the ground running — tweeting about their 24-hour journey from Denver to Russia and texting within minutes of their arrival in Sochi that Steamboat Springs’ own Todd Lodwick, a six-time Olympian and member of the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team, had been chosen to carry the American flag for Team USA during Opening Ceremonies.

The 2014 U.S. Olympic Team includes 14 athletes with ties to Steamboat Springs, so Luke and Joel will be busy covering all the action involving our local athletes who will be competing in Nordic combined, freestyle, half-pipe, Alpine snowboarding and snowboard cross. The pair also will be writing about other Team USA athletes, the Olympics in general and the Sochi experience in particular.

Sports, news and feature articles will be posted live online throughout the day and night as events happen and will be published daily in the print edition.

Luke and Joel will be providing daily “Slopeside at Sochi” blog updates, and Steamboat mom Penny Fletcher will be sending us her thoughts and observations in the form of regular blog posts as she watches her sons, Bryan and Taylor Fletcher, compete together for Olympic gold.

Luke and Joel also will be tweeting and posting on Facebook during their three weeks in Sochi as well as uploading daily photo galleries. Follow Luke on Twitter @LukeGraham and Joel @JReich9, and watch for the #SteamboatToSochi hash tag. To follow along on Facebook, “like” the Steamboat Pilot & Today page.

The latest Olympic news, blogs, daily photo galleries, medal counts, events, schedules and links to archived articles on Steamboat’s Olympians can be read on our “Steamboat to Sochi” Olympics Web page, which can be accessed on the Steamboat Pilot & Today website by visiting SteamboatToday.com/sochi/.

Because of the 11-hour time difference between Steamboat and Sochi, the most up-to-date coverage will be found online. And as with past Olympics, expect full, in-depth coverage and amazing photographs in our daily print editions.

We're excited to offer our readers a front-row seat to this year's Winter Olympics, and we hope you'll follow along as Luke, Joel and our news team works hard to provide the best coverage possible.
