Steamboat Springs It was a good weekend for Steamboat Springs High School wrestling team as it showed some of its best performances to this point in the season. The wrestling team traveled to Thomas Jefferson High School on Saturday and came back with results that left coach Shane Yeager positively positive.
The team had six wrestlers place in the top four and finished fourth overall.
“This weekend was wonderful,” Yeager said. “It’s been two years and we haven’t placed anyone at that tournament. For us to wrestle that well against that good of competition is a big deal for us. I can’t be any more proud.”
The team got second-place finishes from Colton Pasternak at 106 and Brandon Yeager at 195. Dakota Thvedt at 113 and Matthew Hansen at 132 were third, and Cole Sittig at 285 and Connor O’Brien at 182 were both fourth.
“It was a good day,” Shane Yeager said. “Our kids wrestled really well.”
Next up for the Sailors is the Routt County Triangular, at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Steamboat against Hayden and Soroco.
The Tigers are coming off their own strong weekend of competition. Competing at the Valley Classic at Center High School, the team placed third overall.
