Skating Sailors can't hang with one of state's best

Playing one of the top high school teams in the state, Coach Brent Tollar said his Steamboat Springs hockey team had to be perfect Saturday afternoon at home against Regis Jesuit.

The Sailors weren’t, but Tollar said there were positives to take from the 3-1 loss, and that the team is in a good position moving forward.

“We played pretty well,” Tollar said. “We had some team goals we wanted to try to follow today. We didn’t quite reach all of them, but Regis is a good team, not a team that gives you any leeway.”

Regis went up 2-0 in the second period before Jackson Perry scored midway through that period. Regis answered right back, however, maintaining the two-goal advantage to the end of the game.

“Defensively we played OK in the corners, and Trent (Trask) played really well in the net,” Tollar said.

Regis, 13-1, sits atop the division while Steamboat, 9-4-1, still is in the upper half in seventh. The team has three games remaining, starting Saturday with a home game against Standley Lake. The Sailors play at home again Feb. 11 against Summit and close the regular season on the road Feb. 14 against Ralston Valley.

“I feel really good about where we are,” Tollar said. “We’ve come together as a team and the boys are learning the identity of the team. I’m hoping we can finish out our season strong and hopefully make a run for the playoffs.”

Joel, you're article titles are annoying, belittling, and arbitrary. This is a community based newspaper, and the majority of (sports) articles' titles are no where near supportive of our or loss. Geeze!

Thin skin much, Madison? Ye gods.

How about this: Skating Sailors Courageously Competed In Stunning Display of Fortitude, Sacrifice, Tenacity and Valor. And They Love Puppies.

By the way - there's so such thing as "you're [sic] articles".

What's with these forums? B - O - R - I - N - G. We need more pot articles. Deranged criminals. Crooked politics. C'mon Pilot, help us out.

For all my Bronco fan friends - I know you're having a tough time washing the bitter taste of humiliation from your mouths after having been chewed up & spit out by my awesome Hawks. No worries, the remedy is readily available: go ye, and drink of it.

If you love Seattle so much Brian, please move there. Thanks! Oh, and take your guitar with you.

Don't love Seattle all that much, just their football team. But thanks for your concern - it's touching.

Bret, don't be a sore loser , we got the beat down we deserved . Seahawks were what they said they were.......wait , that was Dennis Green ,hahaha my bad.~;0) congrats on your Hawks , Brian

Not a sore loser John. The Seahawks were clearly a much better team than the Broncos on Sunday. Just can't stand people who claim "my awesome Hawks" or whatever team they are a part of. I did not know Brian was/is on the Seahawks payroll. Must be the (un)official guitar player. Now taking donations for bus fare for Brian to get back to the PNW!

Curious how those cheerleading for the Broncos during the same discussion managed to evade your sanctimony. You've graduated from vacuous to asinine in record time.

Cheer up, Bret. It looks like fresh powder on the way this week!
