Golf fundraiser surpasses expectations

Joel Reichenberger

— In its 10th year in Steamboat Springs, the Arnie’s Army Battled Prostate Cancer golfing fundraiser had its best year.

The event drew 52 golfers Wednesday, and they helped raise more than $2,600, the most successful fundraising year for the charity.

“The guys were really generous,” organizer Rich Danter said. “Each guy, in order to participate in the prizes, had to give $20 and more than half gave us more. We’re really pleased.”

The day’s prizes for contests such as closest to the pin went to Scott Havenor, Dennis (Hack) Glacken, who won two, Steve Richeimer, Peter Stein, Jerry Laszewski and Troy Breyfogle, who also won twice.

The day’s fundraising haul pushes the event’s 10-year take to more than $14,000, all raised to help in prostate cancer research.

“It was really cool,” Danter said. “It was a great atmosphere and we had a lot of fun. It felt really good.”
