— In its final test before spring break at the upcoming regional tournament, the Steamboat Springs High School girls tennis team grabbed second at the Longmont Girls Tennis Invitational on Saturday.

Kira Lorenzen was Steamboat’s top performer, grabbing gold in the No. 2 singles finals, 6-1, 6-1, over Longmont. Ellie Bender was second in No. 1 singles, losing in the finals by default to depart early for spring break vacation. Maddie Labor also took silver in No. 3 singles play, losing 5-7, 2-6 in the finals.

In doubles play, Maddie and Emmie Thompson were third in the No. 1 pool, winning the third-place match, 6-2, 7-6. Shannon Ross and Sydney Boyd took bronze in No. 3 doubles play with a 7-6, 6-1 win.

Results were not available for Steamboat's No. 2 doubles team of Hanna Haggarty and Sabina Berend, or the Sailors' No. 4 doubles pair of Lily Petersen and Kelly Limberg.

Eight teams — mostly Front Range schools — competed in the tournament Saturday.

This year's regional tournament is May 2 and 3 at Grand Junction.
