— A team of six Routt County Search and Rescue volunteers rode about 10 miles into the woods Monday evening to rescue an injured hunter.

Incident Commander Kristia Check-Hill said the 52-year-old male bow hunter from out of state had rolled his all-terrain vehicle at about 5 p.m. Saturday. Upper back pain developed, and the man’s hunting companion called Search and Rescue for help.

Hill said the men were at the base of Dome Peak in the Diamond Park area off Seedhouse Road in North Routt County.

Rescuers rode to the man and took him out on an ATV. The 6 1/2 hour mission was over at about 9:30 p.m.

“Hunting season is here, so everyone be prepared for the weather and be safe,” Check-Hill said.
