Steamboat Springs City Council race in District 1 down to 3 candidates

— Businessman Toby Spikes has withdrawn from the Steamboat Springs City Council race in District 1 to throw his support behind another candidate.

In a letter to his supporters, Spikes wrote he and Tony Connell, the vice-president of Connell Resources, have similar views, and he wanted to support him instead of running.

“I feel that two candidates with similar views should not compete with each other with a possible outcome that could dilute not only their votes but also the desire of their voters,” Spikes wrote.

Still running with Connell in the race are John Fielding, a retired build contractor, and Clark Davidson a tax preparer and attorney.

Scott Ford, Kenny Reisman and Walter Magill are running unopposed this fall.
