2013 Rams volleyball schedule

— First-year Soroco High School volleyball coach Jeannie Jo Logan insisted mass improvements already have been made from the Rams’ season-opening loss at Vail Mountain on Friday. The end result in the season’s second game, however, was a back-and-forth, five-set loss at cross-county rival Hayden on Tuesday night.

The Rams (0-2, 0-1 Western Slope League) opened the match with a 25-17 set victory but dropped the next two to the Tigers, 25-11 and 25-22. Despite a few injuries and players in unfamiliar positions, Logan’s squad won the fourth set, 25-22, forcing a game-deciding fifth set.

Hayden managed to edge out Soroco in that final set, 16-14, but Logan was impressed by how her team bounced back from midmatch turmoil and the loss of middle hitter Leah Warloski to injury. Warloski was replaced admirably by junior Jessica Rossi, Logan said.

“I know what they’re capable of. I’ve seen it,” Logan said. “It’s just building their confidence to know this and play that way. I saw that better tonight. They definitely played stronger and more confident. When they were behind, they fought back. They truly fought back.”

Soroco will hit the road again Thursday, this time to take on Vail Christian at 6:30 p.m.
