Free golf for juniors with paying adult on Labor Day
Haymaker Golf Course is offering free golf for juniors ages 18 and younger with a paying adult Monday. The holiday weekend also features discounted rates of $49 for nine holes with a cart and $79 for 18 holes with a cart through 3 p.m. Monday.
The golf course also is offering the following programs:
■ Thursday: free range instruction with a golf pro from 5 to 7 p.m.
■ Saturday: three-club scramble tournament with 9:30 a.m. tee times, $25.
■ Sept. 14 and 15: Haymaker Golf Classic 36-hole individual stroke play, $135
■ Sept. 21: Big Thursday Championship with 9:30 a.m. tee times
■ Sept. 27 to 29: HayCup Open with a 4:30 p.m. shotgun start Sept. 27 and a 9:30 shotgun start Sept. 28 and 29, $35 plus green fees

Asters on sale to benefit VNA hospice program
Asters are on sale through Saturday to benefit the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s hospice program. The VNA’s Hospice and Palliative Care program helps more than 300 kids grieve the loss of a loved one each year in Steamboat Springs and Craig, according to a news release.
The asters come in 4-inch pots and are $5 each. Orders can be made at www.nwcovna.org, or the asters can be purchased from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Elkstone Farm Stand and all day Saturday at City Market and Walmart in Steamboat Springs. For more information, call Dervla Lacy at 970-871-7603.
Tickets go on sale Saturday for the Rubber Ducky Race
Tickets for the annual Rubber Ducky Race go on sale at 10 a.m. at Ace at the Curve and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at City Market on Saturday. Tickets are $10 each, and proceeds benefit Yampa Valley Medical Center. The 26th annual event is Sept. 14.
Golf 4 Advocates is on Friday at Rollingstone
The second annual Golf 4 Advocates tournament begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Friday at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club. The tournament features teams of four compete for prizes. Mulligans are available, and there also is a four-hole putting contest that can be entered for $2. The cost is $110 and includes 18 holes, cart, lunch and a gift bag. Howelsen Hill to host Family Fun Festival
A Family Fun Festival is from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at Howelsen Hill. The event includes games, races, live music and a silent auction. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger and includes food. Proceeds from the event benefit Steamboat residents Izaac Kinnison and Scott Blair, who both have been diagnosed with brain tumors.
Izaac, 11, is in sixth grade at Steamboat Springs Middle School. Izaac originally was diagnosed in May 2012. After being cleared in February, he found out in June that the tumor had returned.
Blair was diagnosed after suffering a seizure while skinning up Mount Werner on May 5.
The silent auction features merchandise including ski gear, restaurant and hotel certificates, jewelry, art, spa treatments, cleaning and veterinary services and more.
Those who are unable to attend can make a donation to Locals Helping Locals at any Wells Fargo.
Tennis Center at Steamboat hosts end of summer event
The End of Summer Smash is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs, 12500 Pine Grove Road. The event features 7.0 and below as well as 7.5 and above divisions. Story-hour for preschoolers returns to South Routt the week of Sept. 9. The group will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Yampa Public Library and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Oak Creek Public Library. The sixth annual Community Barn Dance and Barbecue is from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 21 at Wandering Creek Ranch, 33850 Routt County Road 14.
