“It's slow, slow, slow,” Elections Supervisor Kim Bonner said Thursday.

She said the office has received and processed about 3,000 valid ballots out of the more than 15,000 that were mailed out.

Voter turnout in the past odd-year coordinated election in 2011 ended up at 7,826 ballots cast.

“They're coming in slowly and steadily now but not at the rate we're looking for,” Bonner said about the ballots.

It's now time for voters to be aware of some upcoming deadlines.

Bonner said 3 p.m. Friday is the latest county residents can drop off ballots at the remote locations in Yampa, Oak Creek, Hayden and Clark. After that, ballots need to be dropped off or mailed back to the Routt County Courthouse in downtown Steamboat Springs.

The elections office is encouraging voters who haven't completed ballots by Friday to drop them off, not mail them, to ensure they get back to the courthouse before Tuesday's voting deadline.

The courthouse will be open to accept ballots from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day.

Residents who have resided in the city for at least 22 days still can visit the courthouse through Election Day to register to vote and get a ballot.

“But at this point in time, we cannot mail out ballots,” Bonner said.

The office still can issue replacement ballots in person.

Residents can call the elections office at 970-870-5558.
