Steamboat Springs The reports of the death of Steamboat Smokehouse have been greatly exaggerated.
“I’ve heard all kinds of rumors,” said Fritz Aurin, owner of the longtime Lincoln Avenue establishment.
Speculation has run wild in the past two weeks, Aurin said, but the restaurant is undergoing some renovations and will be open by ski season.
What’s less clear is what that will look like.
“We’re just trying to decide specifically on the type of service we’ll give during the season,” Aurin said.
The Smokehouse is open for parties and events in the meantime, he said, and the hope is to have the details of its winter service ironed out in the next couple of days.
In the meantime, Aurin said, he’s been trying to fix little things that have accumulated during more than two decades of operation, make some cosmetic changes and ensure there’s well-trained staff ready for ski season.
