Hayden Public Library to hold special story-hour
The Hayden Public Library, 201 East Jefferson Ave., will hold a special Halloween-themed preschool story-hour at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Participating children and their caregivers are asked to dress up for trick-or-treating and a Spook Walk around the neighborhood. The group will leave the library at 11 a.m.

Booster Club, cheer team fundraiser at 5 p.m. Thursday
Tickets are available for a barbecue fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Eighth Street and Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat Springs. A $5 ticket includes a burger or hot dog (veggie available with advanced request), drink and chips. Five meal tickets can be purchased for $20. Tickets can be purchased in advance from a cheerleader, at All That Jazz or at Soda Creek Elementary School. Prices increase the day of the fundraiser. Proceeds benefit the Steamboat Springs High School cheer team and the high school Booster Club.

Power to the Parents Series continues at library Nov. 12
The free Power to the Parents Series continues with “The Sex Talk” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Bud Werner Memorial Library, 1289 Lincoln Ave. Teen therapist Elizabeth Clark will talk about teen sexuality. Clark is the author of two books on the subject, including “Molly Top’s Teen Guide to Love, Sex and No Regrets: Changing the World One Kiss at a Time” and “Parenting Plugged-In Teens: Becoming their GPS in a Cyber-Sexual World.”
The program will be broadcast live at Hayden Public Library and Integrated Community, where it will be translated in Spanish.
The series is presented by Parent Empowerment Routt County and sponsored by the Craig-Scheckman Family Foundation.
Library hosts Sketchbook Project traveling exhibition
Bud Werner Memorial Library is participating in the Sketchbook Project, a global, crowd-sourced art project and traveling exhibition of handmade books that are filled with prose, photography, poems, drawings, doodles, paintings, thoughts and experiences.
The library has blank sketchbooks ($10 for adults and $5 for youths 17 and younger) available for members of the Steamboat Springs community who want to contribute thoughts, images and tales to the global project.
Finished sketchbooks must be postmarked by Jan. 15 for inclusion in the Mobile Sketchbook Library Tour, which visits the Bud Werner Memorial Library in August. For more information about the Sketchbook Project in Steamboat Springs, visit www.steamboatlibrary.org/events.
Food safety basics training course is set for Nov. 13
A food safety basics training course for retail food establishment employees in Routt County is from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave.
The class will cover risk factors associated with foodborne illness, personal hygiene and hand washing requirements, hazardous foods, proper labeling, cross-contamination, time and temperature control requirements, and cleaning and sanitization techniques.
