Steamboat Springs With business growing, luxury vacation home rental company Moving Mountains took the need for some additional office space and paired it with a move to the now-bustling Wildhorse Marketplace.
Robin Craigen, president and CEO of Moving Mountains, said he realized it was a unique opportunity to occupy the couple of corner units in Wildhorse and saw the potential to offer more to guests during the check-in experience.
“I think what’s interesting for us is Wildhorse Marketplace is truly at the gateway of the ski area,” Craigen said.
The new location will offer 40 percent more space than the business’s previous location and will move operations closer to the mountain, where all of the properties managed by the company are located.
In addition to greater visibility, Craigen said, it will be more convenient for guests to stop by on the way to the mountain.
“I think it’s an exciting time to be at Wildhorse just the way it’s kind of come together there with the restaurant scene and movies,” he said. “That location provides more opportunity for our guests on check-in day.”
The finishing touches to the space are ongoing with the move starting next week and continuing during the next month.
A grand opening is expected at the beginning of December, Craigen said.
Moving Mountains also has added to its portfolio of luxury slope-side properties with units in Edgemont and new opportunities to stay at One Steamboat Place.
When the company was starting with a focus on the catered ski chalet experience, Craigen said, slope-side condos weren’t necessarily where he saw it going.
But the standard of luxury at One Steamboat Place and Edgemont make those properties fit with Moving Mountains’ target market, he said.
Moving Mountains also has added two more options for larger groups, according to Craigen.
“We have seen many extended family groups looking to accommodate more people than you can put in a five or six bedroom,” he said.
Arabella and Falconhead are two luxury duplexes where Moving Mountains now offers both adjoining units together.
And bookings are keeping up with the growth in properties, Craigen said.
“We’re very excited by the way bookings are coming in,” he said, adding that the early booking pace is ahead of the past two years.
The recovering economy should be a boon for the luxury vacation sector, Craigen said.
“Our (One Steamboat Place) inventory has grown significantly over the last four years,” he said. “It’s encouraging to see demand is following that.”
International bookings also are increasing and partnerships with wholesale booking agents are growing, Craigen said.
“We have a strong repeat guest following,” he said. “They make up the backbone of our bookings.”
Around the Marketplace
• Jon Sanders, of Ski Town Commercial real estate agency, said Wildhorse Marketplace is almost full. The last unit left to lease will be the one currently occupied by his business, and he’s in the process of moving out.
• The Drunken Onion now is selling Amante coffee and has expanded to full espresso service. It also will be selling Bhakti Chai and Numi teas.
Right now, owner and chef Ben Stroock said, it’s open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., but he hopes to expand those hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s closed Sundays until after Thanksgiving.
Stroock said breakfast items also are going to expand with burritos and stuffed-egg croissant sandwiches while staying true to its get-and-go theme.
• Heritage Title Co. has moved into the building that once held Millenium Bank.
• Blue Sage Pizza, which will be in the unit where Caffe Corretto was, still is in the process readying the new location.
