The band will perform traditional big band music typical of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s.

“It’s pretty much a full-blown jazz ensemble,” said Mike Lewis, who plays lead tenor saxophone.

The event begins at 7 p.m. with local ballroom and swing dancers Holly and Matt Blanchard leading a basic swing dance lesson for about 30 minutes. The band will begin at about 7:30 p.m. and run until about 10 p.m. with swing and jazz standards and traditional ballroom dancing tunes.

The cost is $15 per couple, $10 per person or $5 for students. There also will be beer and wine for sale.

The band is a cross-section of musical talent. It features 17 members, eight of whom are professional musicians.

“We have people from all different walks of life,” Lewis said. “We have about six music teachers and a couple professionals. It’s just folks that like to play music.”

Lewis said the event is for the whole family and can be a nice way to spend a night on the town without the doldrums of going to a bar. He encouraged anyone to come and said the dance lesson fits in perfectly with the rest of the evening.

“Come dance or sit and listen,” Lewis said.
