Health briefs: Learn about new health insurance marketplace at meetings throughout Routt County

— The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is hosting a series of free information sessions to answer questions about the new health insurance marketplace, Connect for Health Colorado. A health coverage guide will attend the meetings for individuals, families and small-business owners interested in learning about their options for health insurance under new legislation. The meeting dates are as follows:

Monday: 1 to 3 p.m. at LIFT-UP of Routt County, 2125 Curve Court

Tuesday: 4 to 6 p.m. at Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple St.

Oct. 21: 1 to 3 p.m. at LIFT-UP of Routt County, 2125 Curve Court

Oct. 22: 4 to 6 p.m. at Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple St.

Oct. 28: 3 to 6 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall, 178 W. Jefferson Ave.

Nov. 6: 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden Valley Elementary School, 300 Breeze Basin Blvd.

Nov. 7: 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden High School, 495 W. Jefferson Ave.

Parkinson’s support group meets Monday

A Parkinson’s support group meeting is at 4:30 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs, 736 Oak St. The free group provides support and education for partners of people with Parkinson's Disease. For more information, call 970-875-1088.

6-week health workshop begins Tuesday

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is starting a six-week Better Choices, Better Health workshop Tuesday. The free workshop will focus on nutrition, physical activity, stress management, self-management of chronic conditions, caregiver support and more. Cancer support group meets Friday

A Whole Person Wellness Cancer Support Group is from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Yampa Valley Medical Center's Integrated Health building, 3001 S. Lincoln Ave. The free support group is designed to give participants a better understanding of how the body-mind connection is inseparable and can be a powerful tool in the healing process.   

Natural Grocers hosts series of educational health classes

Natural Grocers is hosting a series of free educational classes in October that focus on nutrition and health. The class dates are as follows:

Tuesday: A cooking demonstration at 6 p.m. will focus on organic and gluten- and dairy-free smoothies and snacks.

Oct. 21: A cooking demonstration from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. is for children ages 4 to 8 and a parent to learn about how to use healthy food to write about imaginary animals.

Oct. 24: A cooking demonstration at 6 p.m. features quick and delicious breakfast ideas.

Oct. 30: Learn ways to reduce our risk of breast cancer as well as learn about risk factors and risk assessing thermal imaging.
