Bendapudi, dean of the University of Kansas School of Business, will be the first keynote speaker at this year’s Economic Summit 2013 in Steamboat Springs.

The summit is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Steamboat Grand. Registration is $65 for members of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. The fee for nonmembers is $80.

Those interested in registering should visit the Chamber’s website.

The summit this year is titled "Mission Possible: Creating an Entrepreneurial Culture." As the theme implies, the summit focuses on developing and fostering an entrepreneurial environment in business.

Bendapudi earned her doctorate from KU in 1994, and for 30 years, she has been putting her research theories to the test in real-world situations.

“I really believe in being there and practicing,” Bendapudi said.

She once held the position of executive vice president and chief customer officer at a bank with $55 billion in assets. She also studied the customer experience and how customers form relationships with brands, and she plans to teach those attending the summit how to use her version of "TLC."

“Through the lens of the customer,” Bendapudi said.

Bendapudi is a popular speaker who has participated in numerous TEDx events.

Following Bendapudi, the noon speaker will be Jim Deters, managing director and co-founder of Galvanize. The company has a building in Denver where space is rented to entrepreneurs and startup companies looking for an environment that fosters ideas and innovation.

Local business leaders will be leading presentations. Companies presenting include Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., Deer Park Road Corp., One Steamboat Place, Big Agnes and SmartWool.

The summit will conclude with a talk from Steve and Diane Muntean, who operate the Muntean Leadership Group, a Steamboat-based business consulting firm that focuses on organizational leadership, sales leadership, personal leadership, performance coaching and the selection and retention of top talent.
