Steamboat Springs The signs in Blue Sky Pottery go against what we all learned in our childhoods. Somewhere in the mind, an adult saying “don’t touch” resonates.

But in Blue Sky, as several members of the Steamboat Clay Artisans set up for their annual holiday pottery show, cards encouraging patrons to touch the work went up, as well.
“We encourage people to touch it,” Blue Sky owner Deb Babcock said. “They can feel the difference in it being handmade.”
The pottery show and sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Blue Sky and features the work of eight of the Steamboat Clay Artisans.
The sale will include hundreds of handmade cups, dishes, vases, bowls, bakeware, home decor and more.
Participating artists include Julie Anderson, Babcock, Frank Bradley, Jody Elston, Barb Gregoire, Colleen Owen, Patti Retz and Kathy Thayer.
“It’s handmade, and it’s local,” Gregoire said. “It’s fun because the eight of us can make mugs, and they’re all different. The personality shines through on these pieces.”
The show means it's back to the busy season for most of the artists, who spent a good part of the summer crafting bowls for the annual Soup Bowl Supper fundraiser.
The fall and early winter, though, prep them for the busy season.
In addition to pottery, there will be food and beverages as well as music.
“You’ll see all different styles of pottery and all different price ranges,” Gregoire said.
The Steamboat Clay Artisans holiday sale isn’t the only one ready to kick off:
