Holiday Wishes program collecting for 400 families
This year, the Holiday Wishes program is hoping to collect gifts for more than 400 local families that are selected by Routt County United Way. The program culminates with the Community Holiday Wishes Party from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill. At the free celebration, there will be caroling, visits with Santa, sleigh rides, tubing and snacks, and donated gifts will be wrapped.
Howelsen Hill Ski Area passes are now available
The Howelsen Hill Ski Area season passes are on sale at the Howelsen Hill concession stand, according to a city of Steamboat Springs news release.
Concession stand hours during November will be as follows: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; and 1 to 6 p.m. Friday.
Howelsen Hill and the Nordic trails will open Saturday conditions permitting.
The concession stand will continue to sell passes during normal operating hours during the season. Prices will increase $30 on Dec. 2.
The new pass structure this year includes an Alpine pass, a Nordic pass and the third option of a combined pass, which offers access to both the lifts and the Nordic trails. Price breakdowns can be found online at www.steamboatsprings.net/ski.

Concordia Lutheran accepts gifts for program Monday
Concordia Lutheran Church, 755 Concordia Lane, will serve as a collection point for Operation Christmas Child again this year. Through Operation Christmas Child, Steamboat Springs residents will help send more than 100 million shoe box gifts to needy children in more than 130 countries. The boxes will be filled with Christmas gifts including school supplies, toys, necessity items and notes of encouragement.
Steamboat residents are asked to pack their own boxes and drop them off at the church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Monday. A $7 check also should be included to cover shipping costs.

Northwest Colorado VNA offers help to quit tobacco
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association reminds young adult smokers that a free text message program is available to help them quit tobacco.
SmokefreeTXT is a free mobile service providing encouragement and tips to help young smokers quit for good. Quitting tobacco usually takes multiple attempts, but studies show support, including text message programs, can significantly improve a person’s chance for success

Free screenings available through Horizons group

LIFT-UP of Routt County needs volunteers for store
LIFT-UP of Routt County is in need of volunteers to work in the thrift store and donation center at 2125 Curve Court in Steamboat Springs. Volunteers must be able to lift 25 pounds, and duties include sorting and pricing donated items, stocking shelves and straightening up display areas. Shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
The LIFT-UP Food Bank also is seeking volunteers to work as desk clerks. Volunteers must have computer and interpersonal skills and must be able to honor client confidentiality. Shifts are available between 1 and 5 p.m. on weekdays.
