Steamboat briefs: United Way aims to raise $20K on Thursday

Routt County United Way will strive Thursday to raise $20,000 in one day to help fund more than 37 health and human service organizations in Routt County. United Way’s staff and board will be manning the office telephones from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Those wanting to make a donation can call 970-879-5605.

Brian Harvey, of Easy 94.1 KEZZ and ESPN 98.9 KTYV, will host a live remote at City Market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be balloons, Starbucks coffee and City Market wraps. During the live remote, local residents are invited to meet board members who will match up to the first $10,000. Holy Name Catholic Church hosts free community meal

Holy Name Catholic Church, 524 Oak St., hosts its free, monthly community dinner from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Those who would like to contribute a side dish or volunteer are asked to call 970-879-0671.

Tread of Pioneers Museum to be closed through Friday

The Tread of Pioneers Museum will be closed through Friday before opening its annual Festival of Trees exhibit Saturday. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday to Nov. 25. The museum also will be closed Nov. 26 to deliver Festival of Trees items to sponsors and Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving. For more information, call 970-879-2214.

Home ReSource is seeking volunteers to sort donations

Home ReSource at the Milner landfill is in need of volunteers to help organize donated items, including furniture, lighting and building supplies. Those who are interested are asked to call Jenn at 970-879-6985.

Concordia collects boxes for Operation Christmas Child

Concordia Lutheran Church, 755 Concordia Lane, will serve as a collection point for Operation Christmas Child again this year. Through Operation Christmas Child, Steamboat Springs residents will help send more than 100 million shoe box gifts to needy children in more than 130 countries. The boxes will be filled with Christmas gifts including school supplies, toys, necessity items and notes of encouragement.

Steamboat residents are asked to pack their own boxes and drop them off at the church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Nov. 25. A $7 check also should be included to cover shipping costs.

Nonprofit needs volunteers to teach English to others

Integrated Community is looking for volunteers to teach English. The in-home tutoring program trains and matches volunteers with limited-English-speaking community members. Get to know residents from other cultures while helping them learn English. For more information, call Laura at 970-819-3720.
