Singles and doubles tennis registration closes Tuesday

Registration closes Tuesday for the city’s singles and doubles tennis championships Friday and Saturday at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs. Registration information is available at www.10s.com.

Ribbon cutting for new medians is on Thursday

Due to the snowy weather in Tuesday’s forecast, the city of Steamboat Springs has rescheduled the ribbon cutting ceremony for its newly renovated highway medians.

The event now will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Attendees should meet at the Rotary Park parking lot near the U.S. Highway 40 overpass. The eastbound lanes at the overpass will be closed, and traffic will be diverted to the off- and on-ramps for about 20 minutes.

2 Steamboat bartenders are part of online survey

Two of Steamboat Springs’ most popular bartenders are in the running for best Colorado mountain town bartender in an online survey. Voters can choose Sunpie’s Bistro’s Dick “Gooch” Shine or Laundry’s Tod “JJ” Johnson among 27 Colorado bartenders. Voting ends Thursday.

Howelsen Hill Ski Area to start selling passes Tuesday

The Howelsen Hill Ski Area will begin selling season passes Tuesday at the Howelsen Hill concession stand, according to a city of Steamboat Springs news release.

Concession stand hours during the month of November will be as follows: 3:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Nov. 5 to Nov. 14; 3 to 7 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, Nov. 18 through Nov. 22; 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 25 and 26; 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 29.

Howelsen Hill and the Nordic trails will open Nov. 30 conditions permitting.

The concession stand will continue to sell passes during normal operating hours during the season. Prices go up Dec. 2.

The new pass structure this year includes an Alpine pass, a Nordic pass and the third option of a combined pass, which offers access to both the lifts and the Nordic trails. Price breakdowns can be found online at www.steamboatsprings.net/ski.

Heritage Christian grad Rogers receives doctorate

Megan Rogers, a 2002 graduate of Heritage Christian School, received May 23 her doctorate of philosophy in psychology from the Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., according to a news release. Rogers interned in Hersey, Pa., and is doing her residency in Las Vegas. She hopes to finish her licensing hours and return to Colorado within two years.

Yoga Center to temporarily relocate to Perry-Mansfield

Beginning Sunday, the Yoga Center of Steamboat will relocate for six to eight weeks to the Steinberg Pavilion at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp during construction at its current location.
