Austin Hinder, football

2010 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, redshirt junior at University of California

Austin Hinder saw his first action under center for the Golden Bears in their loss at Washington on Oct. 26. Hinder completed one of his four passes on the night, a 16-yard strike to Brendan Bigelow. Hinder also had a pair of rushes for seven yards.

Penn Lukens, lacrosse

2013 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at University of Colorado Boulder

Penn Lukens, a standout defensive player for the Sailors last season, recently made the CU men’s lacrosse club team on the fall roster. The spring season will start in mid-February.

Claire Tegl and Jaime Winter, ice hockey

2010 graduates of Steamboat Springs High School, seniors at Colorado State University

Claire Tegl, a senior captain, and Jaime Winter have helped lead the Rams to a 4-2 record through Sunday. Both have played in all of CSU’s six games, and Tegl has tacked on three points this season.

Courtney Garth, soccer

2010 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, senior at Lake Forest (Ill.) College

The Foresters senior captain helped her team to a 2-0 win over Lawrence in the regular-season finale Saturday. Led by Courtney Garth’s defensive presence, the Foresters allowed just five shots from Lawrence in the game. Lake Forest will be the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Conference Tournament, which starts Friday morning.

Shelby Struble, soccer

2011 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, junior at Milwaukee School of Engineering

Shelby Struble and the Raiders pulled a huge upset in double overtime in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament opener over Concordia. Concordia finished the regular season third in the NACC standings. The Raiders advanced and will play No. 2 Edgewood on Wednesday.

Maggie Stanford, volleyball

2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, sophomore at Sewanee: The University of the South

With Maggie Stanford again in the Tigers’ starting lineup, Sewanee finished the regular season with a 3-0 win over Huntingdon on Sunday. Stanford recorded four kills, and a pair of blocks stuffed in the win. Stanford and the Tigers are the No. 7 seed in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament. They will play Centre on Friday.

Christi Valicenti, tennis

2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, sophomore at Lake Forest University

Christi Valicenti was named Forester Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Midwest Conference Championships. In the league doubles tournament, Valicenti and playing partner Sarah Paulson advanced to the championship match, winning, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, for the school’s first No. 1 doubles title in history. With the fall wrapped up, Valicenti sported a 19-9 record on the season.

Megan Stabile, soccer

2013 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at Mars Hill University

Megan Stabile started the Lions’ final two games of the season. On Wednesday, Mars Hill beat Milligan, 2-0, on the road, but closed out the season with a 5-0 loss at home to Catawba.
