Health briefs: Health Equity Learning Series to be presented at hospital

— The Northwest Colorado Community Health Partnership and The Colorado Trust will present the Health Equity Learning Series from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15 in Conference Room 1 at Yampa Valley Medical Center, 1024 Central Park Drive. Those attending will watch a live stream of the event as it happens in Denver. Nationally renowned presenters will share their knowledge and increase awareness so people can have fair and equal opportunities to lead healthy, productive lives regardless of race, ethnicity, income or where they live. Suicide survivor, depression support group meetings upcoming

• A Heartbeat Suicide Survivor support group meeting is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Yampa Valley Medical Center’s Integrated Health campus, 3001 S. Lincoln Ave. The group is for survivors to learn skills to help manage grief. Enroll by calling 970-846-8182.

• A depression, anxiety and bipolar support group meets from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Conference Room 2 at Yampa Valley Medical Center, 1024 Central Park Drive. The group provides support, education and tools to help with everyday life. Family and friends are welcome. Call 970-819-6751 for more information.

VNA hosts free cardiovascular screenings

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association provides free screenings including total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, blood glucose and body mass index at the following locations:

Wednesday: 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden Valley Elementary School, 300 Breeze Basin Blvd.

Thursday: 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden High School, 495 W. Jefferson Ave.

Nov. 11: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the VNA office, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101

Nov. 12: 4 to 6 p.m. at Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple St.

Health insurance marketplace meetings scheduled

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is hosting a series of free information sessions to answer questions about the new health insurance marketplace, Connect for Health Colorado. A health coverage guide will attend the meetings for individuals, families and small-business owners interested in learning about their options for health insurance under new the legislation. The meeting dates are as follows:

Tuesday: 2 to 4 p.m. at the Haven Community Center, 300 S. Shelton Lane, Hayden

Wednesday: 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden Valley Elementary School, 300 Breeze Basin Blvd.

Thursday: 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden High School, 495 W. Jefferson Ave.

Open enrollment for Medicare Part D lasts through Dec. 7

Open enrollment for Medicare Part D is through Dec. 7. Medicare beneficiaries are able to change plans during this time. Seniors should review their prescription drug plan and make sure it works with the prescriptions they are taking, said Betsy Packer, Routt County Council on Aging’s counselor and coordinator for the Colorado State Health Insurance Assistance Program.

The following open enrollment meetings will be held in Routt County:

Wednesday: 4 to 7 p.m. at Hayden Public Library, 220 E. Jefferson Ave.

Nov. 14: 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Bud Werner Memorial Library
