Steamboat riders strong in Gunnison

— A strong contingent of Steamboat Springs cyclists made the trip last weekend for the Gunnison Growler.

Alex Pond led the way in the 64-mile race, finishing in eighth place in 5 hours, 35 minutes and 50 seconds. Corey Piscopo was 41st in 6:04:27, James MacGray was 64th in 6:18:19, Patrick West was 81st in 6:35:33, Timothy Nylen was 87th in 6:40:03, John Pougiales was 107th in 7:02:22, Mel Stewart was 113th in 7:04:29, and Robin Craigen was 144th in 7:39:32.

Singlespeeder Karen Tremaine was seventh overall in the women’s division, finishing in 7:13:26, and Becky Sears was eighth overall in 7:13:44.

Nate Bird finished second among singlespeed riders and 15th overall in the 32-mile half-Growler in 2:54:31. Phaedra Fegley was 45th among the women in 4:45:10.

Karen Tremaine was also the First in the single speed women's race, and Alex Pond was Second in his 19-29 age group. Outstanding finishes!
