Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs received more than seven-tenths of an inch of precipitation during the weekend and into Monday morning. But the real news was the snow.
Improbably, local weather observer Art Judson was updating his snow total for the winter of 2012-13 on Monday morning after measuring 0.7 inches of snow at his stake perched on Anglers Drive just above the valley floor. That brought the season total to 208.4 inches of snow in town.
The cold precipitation began with 0.16 inches of rain measured at 7 a.m. Monday with another 0.55 inches of moisture in the gauge after a mix of rain and snow fell through the night. And more snow is expected to accumulate in the mountains.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a winter weather advisory for the Park Range and The Elkhead Mountains wrapping around Steamboat from east to northwest with the possibility of 1 to 3 inches of new snow Monday.
The Weather Service is rating the chance of showers in Steamboat at 60 percent throughout the day Monday and through the night, with a low temperature of 35 degrees on the valley floor.
The overnight low could dip just below freezing with a chance for continued snow at 9,700 feet on Mount Werner, where construction workers are building Four Points Lodge.
Things will change drastically by midweek. After a forecast high in the mid 60s Monday, the daily high should rise to 75 degrees under mostly sunny skies Tuesday and touch 80 degrees Wednesday.
