— Smoke will be visible this week from a prescribed burn in western Routt County, south of Hayden, near the Indian Run State Wildlife Area. The burn began Friday and will be monitored for the next few days, according to U.S. Forest Service spokesman Aaron Voos.

The planned burned comprises 800 acres in the Yampa Ranger District and is intended to reduce fuel loading and increase forage quality for deer and elk wintering on National Forest land, according to the release.

Call 970-638-4516 or visit the district office, 300 Roselawn Ave. in Yampa, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for more information.
