— Colorful costumes and a circus atmosphere will be displayed this weekend as the Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club holds its annual spring ice show, Cirque on Ice, at Howelsen Ice Area.

“The costumes and the skaters make this show,” Figure Skating Club organizer and coach Kim Haggarty said about the Cirque du Soleil-inspired show. “We’ve taken a little bit from each of the Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas and turned them into our own show on ice.”

Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Howelsen Ice Arena. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger, and tickets will be available at All That Jazz and Howelsen Ice Arena.

The show will include local performers from the synchronized skating team as well as the Intro to Figure Skating and Learn to Skate programs. A group of nationally ranked skaters — including Katie Curran, Sebastian Payannet, Kaitlyn Doan and Anthony Boucher — also will perform.

The synchronized team of Gillian Cook, Samantha Cretney, Clare Franklin, Tasha Getten, Hanna Haggarty, Heather Nereson, Amanda Perlman, Sage Turek, Mariah Walker and Cassie Wihelm will perform to Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us” and “Scary.”

The Intro to Figure Skating team of Ellie Brown, Natasha Curzon, Madison Hildebrand, Katelyn Kline, Caroline McLaughlin, Cossette McLaughlin, McKenna Murchison, Rubi Regan, Kira Savalox, Serena VanEngelenhoven, Madison VanEngelenhoven and Simone White will perform to a medley of Jackson 5 hits.

Four skaters also will perform solos, including Amanda Perlman to “O,” Tasha Getten to “Tzelma,” Clare Franklin to “Thriller” and Heather Nereson to “Across the Universe.”

Highlighting the annual show will be a clubwide performance to “Alegria,” in which all club members will participate, and a father-daughter skate to “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” which will feature club members and their dads.

The Figure Skating Club, which was formed in 1994, is coached by Courtney Gill, Kim Haggarty and Kelly Ascher.
