Arkansas man dies after having heart attack at Steamboat Ski Area

— It is suspected a heart attack caused a 64-year-old Arkansas man to collapse at Steamboat Ski Area and later die at Yampa Valley Medical Center.

According to a news release from the ski area, the man collapsed at about 10:38 a.m. Monday while skiing with friends on the Spur Run beginner trail. Steamboat Ski Patrol began administering advanced life support a few minutes later.

Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg was investigating the death. He would not release the name of the man, pending notification of family members.

While it appeared to be a medical issue, Routt County Undersheriff Ray Birch said Monday he was going to have a deputy investigate the incident.
