Steamboat Springs police investigating death of woman found in hotel room
Friday, March 15, 2013
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Police Department is investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman whose body was discovered by a housekeeper at a hotel Friday afternoon.
When asked whether the death was suspicious, Chief Joel Rae said there was no clear cause of death.
“It’s suspicious enough that we’re still looking into things,” Rae said.
Officers were called to the Quality Inn and Suites at Walton Creek Road and South Lincoln Avenue at 1:38 p.m.
When asked at about 9 p.m. which officers were investigating the death, Rae said, “We’re all on it.”
Hotel manager Larry Wheeler said officers still were at the hotel at 9 p.m. investigating the incident.
“There is an active police investigation going on right now,” Wheeler said. “I personally have very little information.”
The hotel remained open for business.
Wheeler confirmed that the woman was found in a room and that she was a guest at the hotel, but he did not know whether she was staying there with anyone else.
Rae would not say where the woman was from and said additional information likely would be released Saturday morning.
Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
