— A 24-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested Thursday after police say he got in a fight and stabbed a 19-year-old man in the leg.

Detective Dave Kleiber was called to investigate the incident at about 3 a.m. Thursday after the victim went to Yampa Valley Medical Center. Kleiber said that the wound to the man's thigh was significant but that he was not at the hospital very long.

Kleiber said Victor Mejia-Juarez got into a fistfight with the 19-year-old outside a residence at the Walton Village condominiums, where both men live. The suspect reportedly had drunk a lot of whiskey, and the victim was trying to keep the man from causing problems, Kleiber said.

It is not known exactly what the man was stabbed with. Kleiber said about five knives were seized while serving a search warrant.

Mejia-Juarez was arrested at about 10 a.m. on suspicion of felony, second-degree assault. He was being held without a set bond until he can see a judge Friday.
