Steamboat briefs: Coffee and a Newspaper community event Thursday in Hayden

Members of the Hayden community are invited to bring their story ideas and opinions to a meeting with representatives from the Steamboat Pilot & Today newspaper Thursday morning.

The informal meeting will take place from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Hayden School District School Board meeting room at the east end of the Hayden Secondary Schools building. People can attend for all or part of the meeting. Coffee and breakfast pastries will be served.

Newspaper representatives will include Editor Brent Boyer and General Manager Scott Stanford.

People who choose to attend are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and chat about the newspaper and the Hayden community.

CDOT to start US 40 Elk River bridge work Wednesday

The Colorado Department of Transportation is scheduled to replace the U.S. Highway 40 bridge over the East Fork of the Elk River beginning Wednesday, according to a news release. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays once the weather-dependent project gets under way, and drivers should expect delays.

The $3.1 million project is scheduled for completion November.

Public astronomy event is 7 p.m. Wednesday at CMC

Students of the Colorado Mountain College SKY Club will host a public astronomy night at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the CMC auditorium. Astronomer and SKY Club adviser Jimmy Westlake will present the program titled “2013: Year of the Comet.” The program is free and appropriate for all ages.
