Steamboat Springs man injured after being hit by truck on U.S. Highway 40

— A 55-year-old Steamboat Springs man was seriously injured early Monday morning after he was hit by a Dodge pickup on U.S. Highway 40.

Steamboat Springs Police Sgt. Scott Middleton said the man was walking on the highway near Sleepy Bear Mobile Home Park in west Steamboat when he was hit at midnight by a truck that was traveling east on U.S. 40.

Road conditions were poor because of snow and ice, and the driver of the truck attempted to swerve to avoid the man, Middleton said.

He said the pedestrian was at fault because he was in the roadway. The driver wasn't cited.

The inured man was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center with a compound fracture and head trauma, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, Middleton said.
