— The district’s funding of all-day kindergarten will be on the table when the Steamboat Springs School Board meets Monday night.

The board's discussion comes after a local parent told the School Board earlier this year it should work to find a way to fund a program that currently is tuition based.

The state provides a little more than half of the funding for full-day kindergarten, and districts must either cover the rest or charge parents for the program.

A bill that is scheduled to be introduced soon by state Sen. Mike Johnston, D-Denver, is expected to push for the state to fund the programs fully.

Disctrict officials said last week that three parents in the Steamboat Springs School District had to take their kids out of the full-day program this year because they couldn't afford the tuition, which costs most parents about $2,400 per year.

The School Board meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Soda Creek Elementary School and is open to the public.
