Steamboat briefs: Winter Sports Club names interim executive director

Sarah Floyd has been named the interim executive director of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, according to a news release.

Floyd is taking over for Rick DeVos, who announced in early June that he was leaving his position. She has been athletic director of the Winter Sports Club for the past 14 years.

“With her years of experience as athletic director, Sarah Floyd is a natural choice to fill this role during the interim period,” Winter Sports Club board of directors President Bob Kuusinen said in the release.

The board also has named a selection committee that has begun the search process for an executive director and plans to fill the position by the 2013-14 season. The position will be posted in early July at www.sswsc.org.

Blessing of the Animals is Sunday, all are welcome

A Blessing of the Animals is from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brent Romick Rodeo Arena. All animals are welcome to the event. Father Ernest Bayer will lead a traditional Saint Francis blessing of the animals followed by a barbecue and live music. Everyone is welcome to the free event. Proceeds from donations will benefit the Operation Good Shepherd Charity for those in need in Routt County.

Kyle Rholl graduates from the University of Montana

Kyle Rholl, a former Steamboat Springs resident, graduated from the University of Montana in the spring. He also was named to the dean’s list, requiring a GPA of 3.5 or higher, for the spring semester, according to a news release.

Hayden is hosting a girls volleyball camp in July

Hayden Parks & Recreation is hosting a volleyball camp for girls going into third through fifth grades. The camp will teach fundamentals and is coached by Hayden High School volleyball coaches with help from high school team members. It will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from July 16 to 25. The cost is $20, and the registration deadline is July 3. Tennis tournament is July 26 to 28 in Steamboat

The Steamboat Tennis Association Championships are from July 26 to 28. The weekend event kicks off with a pickleball tournament July 26 followed by adult and junior tennis. A player party is from 4 to 6 p.m. July 27, and a dinner and live auction is from 5 to 7 p.m. July 28 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Call 970-879-8400 for more information.

Planned Parenthood can cover the cost of an annual exam for women who are uninsured or underinsured, according to a news release. Call 970-879-2212 for information or to make an appointment or stop by the health center on 11th Street between Lincoln Avenue and Oak Street.
