— Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. released an initial flight schedule Tuesday for the 2013-14 ski season.

Notable changes include adding another weekly flight from Los Angeles and increasing Saturday seats coming from Newark and Houston into Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden.

The nonstop flights from LAX on Saturdays and Sundays that were added to the schedule last year have expanded to include Thursday flights, as well. The Los Angeles flight was coveted as a connection for Australian visitors.

The number of seats on Saturday flights from Newark will jump from 120 to 145 this year, and Saturday flights from Houston will switch from the 737s used last year to 757s with 183 available seats.

Ski Corp. airline program director Janet Fischer said that the schedule represents the flights that currently are available for visitors to plan their vacations.

Work is continuing on the schedule and more seats may be added as the season grows closer.

“We have aggressively worked with the airlines to provide convenient access into Steamboat so that powderhounds have a variety of options to reach Ski Town USA,” Rob Perlman, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Ski Corp., said in a news release. “We continue to make significant strides in service as seen from the expanded options this season; and are working on new opportunities for the upcoming winter season.”

The initial schedule lists fewer seats on daily flights coming from Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth. The Chicago flight is listed as using a smaller aircraft that would cut seats from 160 to 76 per day. The Dallas/Fort Worth flight is listed as having 28 fewer seats per day.

Total seats and costs for the program won’t be available until closer to the season.

Last year, the program performed better than predicted in business terms and added to the Local Marketing District’s reserve rather than depleting it.

The program cost $2.66 million in guarantees to airlines for the 2012-13 season.

The 0.25 percent sales tax approved by voters to support the airline program raised just less than $1.2 million last year and is trending higher so far this year.
