— For the first time, the Steamboat Springs Junior Golf Association has awarded a scholarship to a graduating senior.

Sam Samlowski was given $1,000 from the Junior Golf Association for his continuing education. Samlowski is headed to Fort Lewis College in Durango next fall.

High school golf coach Steve Dodson said a small committee chose Samlowski because of his involvement with golf, his participation in a number of high school activities and his efforts in the classroom. Samlowski was a member of the high school golf team all four years.

“This is the first time the golf association has awarded a scholarship,” Dodson said. “Hopefully, this will be something that we can do every year."

The nonprofit Steamboat Springs Junior Golf Association’s mission is to promote and support junior golf in Steamboat Springs. Each year, the group hosts the Steamboat Springs Junior Golf Association’s Shoot Out to raise money to help support the high school team, other junior golf programs and golfers like Samlowski with their higher education.
