Police, fire and ambulance calls

2:13 a.m. Steamboat Springs Police Department officers were called to report of a fight in the 820 block of Weiss Circle. Two men were fighting, and one was arrested for criminal mischief.

2:33 a.m. Officers were called to a report of a suspicious incident in the 1800 block of Ski Time Square. One person was arrested for a violation of a protection order.

9:10 a.m. Officers were called to a report of a theft in the 1700 block of River Queen Lane. Two bicycles were stolen.

1:11 p.m. Officers were called to a report of a suspicious person on the Yampa River Core Trail. A person was pleasuring himself in the bushes and watching tubers go by. The person wasn't located.

2:46 p.m. Officers were called to a report of a theft at Sixth Street and Lincoln Avenue. A bicycle was stolen and not recovered.

3:13 p.m. Officers were called to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 2300 block of Apres Ski Way. The person couldn’t remember where they parked their car.

8:59 p.m. Officers were called to a noise complaint in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue. People in the pool were being loud and were issued a verbal warning.

10:38 p.m. Officers were called to a disturbance in the 600 block of Yampa Street. A man had a verbal altercation with a bouncer. The man was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

11:05 p.m. Officers were called to a report of a theft in the 3300 block of Columbine Drive. A wedding ring was stolen. Police took a report.

11:35 p.m. Officers were called to a report of a disturbance in the 1800 block of Kamar Plaza. An employee wanted to quit and there was no one there to cover the shift.

1:11 p.m. -- "Pleasuring himself"? How quaint. Who said it was fun? And how did you lose him? We really appreciate hearing about this one.

11:05 p.m. -- Yep, sounds like a clear case of theft to me. Couldn't be misplaced.

11:35 p.m. -- Did the cops make the poor guy finish his shift? Or did they fill in for him?

What happened to The Record for July 19? Nobody's hiding anything, are they?

Only half the fun of this column is the events themselves. The other half is the creative (to say the least) way in which they are written up. Pardon our hick side.

The more I think about the 1:11 entry, the more bothered I get. Given that our alleged perp beat it (groan) and was not apprehended, we have no evidence that this event occurred anywhere other than the caller's imagination -- making me wonder what purpose was served by its inclusion at all -- entertainment? I suspect the editor of this column is of the female persuasion, probably advanced in years, who cannot mask her disgust with the male gender.
