Ariana Ward, 6, was chosen as Hayden Public Library’s Reader of the Week. Ariana’s parents are Kellie and Kona Ward. She was born in Steamboat and has lived in Hayden her entire life. Ariana has a brother, Will, 5, and a sister, Hadassah, 3. She enjoys playing and hanging out with her friends McKenna and Madison. She regularly attends many of the library programs for kids.
The family has four pets: dog Hitchie, 8, cat Chloe, and two parakeets, Peppy and Lana.
Ariana is not sure what she wants to be when she grows up, but she is thinking about maybe becoming a violinist or an astronaut like her great uncle. In her free time, Ariana enjoys playing Barbies, Leapster, watching TV and playing with her Caroline doll. Her favorite colors are pink and purple. Her favorite movie is “Jake and the Neverland Pirates,” and her favorite book is “Tinkerbell: A Fairy Tale” by Apple Jordan. She is going into second grade, and her favorite subject is science. Ariana said she also likes to play soccer. This summer, her family went to New Mexico, and she enjoyed going to White Sands, visiting a Space Museum, the Billy the Kid Museum and the Smokey Bear Museum.
When asked if she had any thoughts about reading, she replied, “It takes practice.” When her mom told her she was named the Reader of the Week, she said she was excited.
The library holds the Reader of the Week contest each summer, and the winner is interviewed for the Steamboat Today; wins a T-shirt, a water bottle and a book; and chooses the food for the weekly Bingo and Cooking program.
