— The Steamboat Springs Rugby Club won its second consecutive game to start the 2013 campaign, blowing out Glenwood Springs, 53-18.

Playing in 100-degree temperatures, Steamboat brought a full squad of 30 players down to Glenwood.

Steamboat jumped out to a 27-point halftime lead, greeting the second half with wholesale changes.

After the changes, Glenwood scored several tries, before the reserves added late ones to make up the difference.

Steamboat’s Robbie Shine led all scorers with three tries and four conversions.

Steamboat players David O’Malley, Tucker Brock and Matt “Young Man” Kane were named the Men of the Match.

Steamboat, now 2-0, opens up its home season Saturday. The team plays Breckenridge at 1 p.m. at Whistler Field. The game is the last one until Steamboat hosts the annual Cow Pie Classic tournament.

“Our injuries are at a low,” Steamboat coach Julian Bristow said. “We have no real issues. We should have a full squad for the Cow Pie. That’s what we’ve been gearing up towards.”
