Mike Vandahl, basketball

2008 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, senior at Western State Colorado University

Vandahl scored eight points and five rebounds in 27 minutes against Regis on Friday in a 75-54 loss. He added four points, four rebounds and three assists Saturday against Metro State University in a 75-70 loss. The two losses dropped Western to 7-10 overall and 6-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The team has dropped five straight.


Isiah Mendoza-Forsyth

Isiah Mendoza-Forsyth, basketball

2011 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at Johnson & Wales University

Mendoza-Forsyth played eight minutes and didn’t score Saturday in a 98-86 loss to Northern New Mexico College. He did have two steals and an assist. The Wildcats now are 4-20 overall but 3-3 in conference play.


Lauryn Bruggink

Lauryn Bruggink, wrestling

2012 graduate of Soroco High School, freshman at Wayland Baptist University

Bruggink helped Wayland Baptist University to a tie for eighth place at the WCWA National Championships on Friday and Saturday. At 116 pounds, Bruggink lost to Nikkie Brar, of Simon Fraser, by decision.


Lucille Franklin

Luci Franklin, swimming

2012 graduate of The Lowell Whiteman School, freshman at Saint Michael’s College

Franklin helped Saint Michael’s College to a pair of dual wins last weekend. Against Norwich University, Franklin was part of the winning 200-medley relay team. She also won the 200 free. Against the State University of New York, Franklin was on the second-place, 400 free relay team.

Alex Estes

Alex Estes, track and field

2010 graduate of Soroco High School, junior at Adams State University

Estes competed in the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational indoor meet Friday and Saturday. He finished sixth in the high jump Friday, clearing 6 feet, 2 1/4 inches. He also was 13th in the long jump, jumping 21-6.75.
