The first time the Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team clashed with Glenwood, it lost the rebounding battle decisively, giving up heaps of second-chance points.
On Saturday, the Sailors were improved greatly there, but they still couldn’t do enough to win in the rivalry matchup, falling on the road, 51-41.
“We cleaned up the boards really well, but untimely mistakes cost us,” coach John Ameen said. “That’s been the story of our season a lot of the time, but at the same time, it was good to see that something we focused on we improved on.”
McKenzie Repollo scored 10 points. Maggie Crouch had eight, and Alice Holmquist scored six.
Steamboat led by one after the first half but fell behind as the game wore on.
“They took advantage of our mistakes a lot more than we did their mistakes,” Ameen said.
Steamboat dropped to 6-7.
