Glenwood Springs always offers the Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball a tough test. The Sailors don’t often get bruised up the way they did Saturday, however. Glenwood erased Steamboat's 3-point halftime lead, then surged in the fourth quarter for a 42-30 win.
“They worked harder than us during the course of the game. They out-hustled us,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. “They were more physical than we were, and that dictated our ability to make shots against their defense.”
Steamboat led 16-13 at halftime but couldn’t keep that up in the second half. Glenwood scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to run away with the game.
“We were getting good looks. We just weren’t finishing our shots, and without doing that, it’s hard to win games,” DeWolfe said.
Steamboat went 0-8 from the 3-point line and shot just 31 percent from 2-point range.
Ben Custer led the team, scoring 12. He was the only Sailor to score in double digits.
Steamboat dropped to 7-6 while Glenwood improved to 4-8.
