— The Steamboat Springs High School hockey team lost, 6-2, to Mullen on Friday.

Steamboat, now 6-6-1, took an early lead on a Ben Wharton from Jackson Perry goal but wasn’t able to hold it.

Mullen scored a minute after Steamboat and added the next three goals in the second period to all but put the game away.

Christian Ramirez added a late second-period goal to cut the lead to 4-2 before Mullen added two third-period goals for the final result.

Steamboat had won three straight. The loss dropped the Sailors to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Foothills Conference.

Steamboat now is just 3-4 away from Howelsen Ice Arena.

The team next plays at 5 p.m. Saturday at Standley Lake.
